This restaurant has a story dating back to 1895. Ancestors of its owner were fishermen working in Tainan. At the typhoon season from
April to September, they were threatened by incidents of boat capsizing. These months are thus called “Hsiao Yueh” in Chinese, meaning months not suitable for fishing. To tide over difficult days of “Hsiao Yueh,”they sell noodles carrying the stand with a shoulder pole on the street. They also hang a lantern marking words meaning “tiding over the said months.”This is why the restaurant is so named and provides the most famous traditional delicacy in Tainan.
